Sample Management Development Program
I have designed and facilitated a two day management program to provide managers with the fundamental skills and knowledge required to be a more effective manager. The program focuses on understanding the role of a manager, setting goals and expectations, holding staff accountable, motivating staff, providing ongoing balanced feedback, building relationships built on trust and mutual respect, prioritizing and delegating and handling conflict. It contains tools that are immediately applicable back on the job and requires class participants to address management issues they are struggling with. Participants leave the class with answers to real management problems they face and implementable plans. The course is practical, the content actionable, well-researched and thought provoking. The skills learned are invaluable to managers, to their staff, to organizational climate and to company bottom lines. After all, the number one reason people stay or go in organizations is based on their relationship with their manager! Managers have a critical effect on morale, retention rates, productivity, individual well being and overall organizational effectiveness. With the cost of replacing an employee estimated to be as high as 50K ("The Surprising Economics of a People Business", Harvard Business Review, June 2005), organizations need effective managers to ensure employees want to stay rather than "abandon ship".
